TERUEL Blood and Sand by Vicente Blasco Ibáñez

Blood and Sand is a novel I wrote Blasco Ibáñez (1867-1928) in 1908 and describes brilliantly the world of bullfighting with its lights and shadows, from an approach developed by early twentieth century but which is perfectly valid hundred years later. The rituals, the lives of bullfighters rich and poor, the price of fame, feelings and emotions of those living around the party will recorded in the pages of Blasco Ibáñez within a narrative that will be the taste of the public, amateur or not.
The novel itself is a literary qualities beyond doubt but also houses a second story hidden inside of great interest to the student as the male and female lead roles are based on the real lives of Manuel García "The Espartero and Mrs. Celsa Fonfrede, the widow of livestock Concha y Sierra, lovers until the day of the tragedy and whose relationship was a 4 year old girl named Pilar. Psychological portraits of both characters the reflects the author knowingly to be contemporary with the events and characters, so certainly the traits peculiar contribution of actors will be almost unprecedented, since little is known about the real lives of D. Manuel and Mrs. Celsa, although the difficulty is in discerning what is there in the pages written by the novelist or what part is figurative.
The story ends in tragedy in the novel and in reality as a Miura bull, named Perdigon, killed in El Espartero bullring in Madrid when he was only 29 years old. Reading
Blasco Ibáñez reflect on all this, and from time to time is not bad.
